The Support Worker – Complex Psychosocial Disability provides high-quality, person-centred support to individuals living with complex and persistent mental health challenges, including psychosocial disability, histories of self-harm, aggression, and suicide attempts.
This role requires an emotionally resilient, experienced professional who can confidently manage behavioural complexities while promoting safety, dignity, and recovery. The Support Worker plays a key role in implementing support plans, managing crisis situations, and building strong, trusting relationships with participants and their care teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver individualised support that is trauma-informed, person-centred, and recovery-focused
- Support participants with activities of daily living, emotional regulation, and community participation
- Maintain participant safety and wellbeing during periods of crisis, distress, or challenging behaviours
- Implement and adhere to Positive Behaviour Support Plans, safety protocols, and crisis management strategies
- Monitor and respond to self-harming behaviours, suicidal ideation, and episodes of aggression
- Maintain accurate, timely, and objective documentation including daily notes and incident reports
- Communicate effectively with the participant’s support network, including family, clinicians, guardians, and allied health providers
- Encourage participants’ autonomy, strengths, and personal goals through consistent, respectful engagement
Key Selection Criteria
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years experience supporting individuals with complex psychosocial disability, severe mental illness, or dual diagnoses
- Demonstrated experience responding to suicide risk, self-harm, and/or behavioural aggression
- Confidence in de-escalation techniques and crisis response
- Sound knowledge of trauma-informed care and mental health recovery models
- Experience working within NDIS or community mental health frameworks
- High level of emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-awareness

Mandatory Requirements
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Driver’s License
- Reliable, roadworthy vehicle with Comprehensive Car Insurance
- Relevant qualifications in Mental Health, Disability, or Community Services (Certificate IV or higher preferred)
Desirable
- Completion of training in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention (ASIST or similar), or Behaviour Support
- Lived experience or peer work background (welcomed where appropriate)
- Understanding of NDIS Quality and Safeguarding requirements, including understanding of restrictive practices.
Working Environment
- Residential Care Setting and some Community Access Supports as required.
- Shifts may include weekday, weekend, and sleepovers
- Exposure to high-risk behaviours and emotionally challenging scenarios
